There is a poem that says that “There’s nothing like El Vallès”… However, grandpa Joan thinks that in fact “there’s nothing left from El Vallès”. Joan Volart Lloberas has turned 90 years old. Through almost one century of memories we follow the history of his family and the transformations suffered by his homeland.

Vuelve Visionario
VUELVE VISIONARIO
After touring with Charijayac across Ecuador in 2016 and producing for them the Video Series “Retratos de Charijayac”, I almost became a member of the band. During the years 2017 and 2018 I took part in the recording of their last album: Vuelve Visionario, as a music producer, recording engineer and audio editor.
The recording sessions lasted several months and took place between BCN Studios in Barcelona and Tituaña Estudios in Ecuador. The album was mixed by Carlos Manzanares at El Tercero Estudios.
After releasing the album, I also produced two music videos for them: Nos Vemos en la “Próxima Vida” and “Mi Destino”. Last but not least, I was in charge of creating their new website.

Voice of the Barka
“Voice of the Barka” is an ongoing documentary project that follows the stories of the people who live along the Darling River (Barka), in New South Wales, Australia.
The Barka was once a cornerstone of Australia’s cultural and industrial identity. Now it is a dry, parched and suffocated expanse of empty river beds and struggling communities. “The Voice of the Barka” travels the length of the Barka uncovering this injustice and the horrifying accounts of suicide, disease, mental illness, loss of employment, animal extinction, ecocide and destruction of culture. Through a comprehensive record of over 100 voices who’ve emerged to tell their stories, it explores a case for the Rights of Nature and a regenerative-based economy in Australia as unquestionable necessities to move forward from this ecological and social disaster.
“The Voice of the Barka” gives a voice to the voiceless and empowers local community members who have been ignored. Aboriginal elders, mothers, children, farmers, fishermen, mayors, musicians and irrigators are among those who’ve emerged calling for environmental protection of their waterways. An abundance of potential solutions have come to the table, but in order to promote them to a wider audience, they need amplifying. A panel of independent lawyers and environmental & human-rights experts has compiled the Citizens’ Inquiry into the Health of the Barka/Darling River to present to Federal, State and Local Australian Governments. “The Voice of the Barka” will amplify this report through a suite of compelling short documentary films and photographic exhibits.

ANIMAL SOUND
ANIMAL SOUND
Animal Sound was my Bachelor’s Thesis of my BA in Music.
This project works on the possibility of using binaural recording techniques on animals, in particular, on a domestic goat. With microphones placed inside its ears and with a small video camera mounted on his head, we obtain an audiovisual material that enables one to have an approximate idea about how an animal perceives the world. Based on a study of comparative cognition, we aim to find ways of transforming the obtained recordings in order to adapt the human and the animal psychoacoustic frame. The goal is that a person can hear as does an animal, even if this happens only in an approximate way. The materials obtained during the recordings are the starting point to build soundscapes and audiovisual pieces. Therefore, the project begins with the design and construction of a binaural microphone, it continues with field recordings on animals and ends with the edition, processing and composition of final soundscapes.
If you want to know more, you can download the thesis of the project: Animal-Sound.pdf. (It is written in Catalan).
This project has been published at RECERCAT, the “research digital library” of the Generalitat of Catalunya.
The project was exhibited at GEMAK GALLERY in the Hague, as part of an exhibition called SONIFIED OBJECTS.

Muntatge Musical
MUNTATGE MUSICAL
Let music do the talking…
How can music affect the way we understand and experience images? How can it shape a story?
Being a music editor for film, video or television consists in using the power of music to shape the message that the director wants to transmit.
I have worked during two years as a music editor at Televisió de Catalunya and Catalunya Radio, the public catalan broadcaster. The job consists in selecting and editing appropriate music for television programs and documentaries, live music editing for programs broadcasted live, as well as providing musical advice to television producers. I have had the chance to work for many programs such as El Club de la Mitja Nit, Karakia, Esport Club, Temps d’Aventura, La Marató, …
Here you have a selection of some of the programs that I edited or collaborated with:
Azimuth
A short documentary about Azimuth, an organisation for production and performance of electroacoustic music based in the Netherlands. The live performances and the interviews were filmed during the weekender #6-2, that took place at iii workspace in The Hague.

Nos Vemos en la Próxima Vida

In 2017 we joined the famous Ecuadorian band Charijayac in their “Caracter Noble” tour to Ecuador. Our main task was to film their concerts, document their rehearsals and produce a short documentary series called “Retratos de Charijayac”. During two months we traveled the country and we used this opportunity to film a music video for one of their most acclaimed songs: “Nos Vemos en la Próxima Vida”. We finished the shooting sessions several months later in Barcelona.
“Nos Vemos en la Próxima Vida” (See you in the Next Life) follows Mayu, the oldest member of the band, in the impossible journey to meet his lost lover. Mayu’s journey follows a path of purification and self-acceptance. With more than 2M views on Youtube, this song has become a reference of contemporary Andean music worldwide.

Institute of Sonology

This short documentary is a project for the Institute of Sonology, an institution that is focused on teaching and researching in the field of electroacoustic and electronic music.
“The sonologist moves in the field of electroacoustic music, computer music and sound art. Instead of composing with sounds, as is generally the case in instrumental music, in sonology the sound itself is composed in such a way that it gives expression to musical form. This can take place on the basis of the physical principles of sound, on the basis of perception or on the basis of purely compositional ideas.”
